Is sueing small children and dead grandmothers in the interest of musicians?
“‘The current actions of the RIAA are not in my artists’ best interests,’ said Nettwerk chief executive Terry McBride in a statement.
‘Litigation is not “artist development”. Litigation is a deterrent to creativity and passion and it is hurting the business I love.'”
Damn straight. More and more artists (well, those that aren’t whining that they can’t afford the endangered leapord skin seat covers for their private jets) are going to start questioning why they even need the RIAA and such organizations. Promotion? Hire a marketing firm. Production? Hah. CDs are cheap to make, and providing downloads over the internet is even cheaper. Besides, when you start using litigation as a sword, it makes you look incredibly bad to the public (does anyone have sympathy for the McDonald’s coffee incident?).
