Faith Won’t Stop the Killing

“In general, higher rates of belief in and worship of a creator correlate with higher rates of homicide, juvenile and early adult mortality, STD infection rates, teen pregnancy, and abortion in the prosperous democracies…”

Now, repeat after me:

Correlation is not causation.

With that said, I still find the research fascinating. If nothing else, claims that “good family values” (a.k.a. racist, oppressive, fascist bastardizations of Christianity) reduce homicide, STD’s, teen pregnancy, and abortion in the US can get chucked right out the window. Oh what a surprise.

If anyone is actively doing research in this area, I’d like to see what happens when you throw education into the mix as a potential confound. Maybe some test scores regarding science and mathematics? I’d love to see what possible correlations might be hiding there.
