Mugshot 1.1.25 For Dapper And Edgy

Mugshot 1.1.25 has hit the repositories. The dbus patch has been dropped (seeing as how upstream has included it) and there’s a new build dependency on libjpeg62-dev. Also of note, kimberly has built dapper packages for i386.

  1. One more comment: I had to manually run “sudo gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/hicolor” to get the mugshot icon to display properly.

  2. I hadn’t noticed that as a problem for me, but I’ll look at adding it to the postinst script in the next version. As a side note, I’ve been noticing somewhat random crashes on both i386 and amd64 edgy builds. Not entirely sure what’s going on. I haven’t had the time to try and track down the problem.

  3. Yeah, I’ve seen a few crashes, too. I’ve only had to to the gtk-update-icon-cache on a few machines. It might have something to do with directory timestamps or something.

And of course, it’s now time to rebuild for 1.1.26 :-/

They (the mugshot guys) should improve the client distribution framework so it can update itself in some way. Maybe after development setttles down a little…

  4. I wonder if it’s worthwhile to patch mugshot to disable the new version popup, since the download link won’t be useful if you’re using the nighton packages…

  5. I’m going to be a bit selfish and not remove the download notification. It lets me know when I need to go and update the packages. 🙂 Besides, it’s also a nice little nagging reminder to people that you really shouldn’t just trust third-party packages / repositories. For all anyone using these packages knows, I’ve added nasty and malicious code to the binary builds (I haven’t – but it’s always a risk you run with untrusted sources). On that note, I really should go and read up on how to get this included in universe…

Any MOTU’s reading that could save me some time?
